Algerian startup is 5th most valuable in FORBES MENA list
The Algerian born startup, Yassir, is ranked as the 5th most valuable startup in the FORBES top 50 startups of of Mena region. Yassir (“easy” in Arabic) is a ride hailing and delivry service. It also provides food and grocery delivery, and financial services. The app has a backing of backing (~$200M in funding) from VCs from Silicon Valley, and other parts of the world as per Ycombinator.
The app is active in six countries and 45 cities across Algeria, Morocco, and Tunisia, and parts of French-speaking Africa. It has more than 100,000 partners, including drivers, couriers, merchants, wholesalers, gig workers, and vendors, serving over eight million users.
In November 2022, the startup raised $150 million in a Series B funding round. It plans to expand into multiple geographies within the EMEA region.
The African startup, first launched in Algeria, has now raised $193.25 million since its inception in 2017. While its valuation remains undisclosed, Yassir considers itself the most valuable startup in North Africa and one of the highest-valued startups in Africa and the Middle East.
Yassir is one of five Africa-focused startups to have secured more than $100 million in 2022. The north African startup joins Flutterwave, Wasoko, Instadeep and Sun King on the shortlist.
