The Clinton’s love affair with Morocco

Morocco made headlines across news outlets in the USA just few weeks before the presidential elections in 2016. The main story was that Hillary Clinton received $12m from Morocco. Headlines such as ‘Hillary Clinton Sold Her Soul When They Accepted That Money‘ were re-iterated across the American media.

The story among other things has cost her the elections and saw Trump winning in major surprise. The Clinton’s connection to Morocco doesn’t end there though. The Clintons also attended American billionaire Marc Lasry’s wedding in 2017. In 2019, former US President Bill Clinton and his wife Hilary Clinton were in Marrakesh to celebrate Marc Lasry’s birthday.

Images of the couple visiting Marrakesh world heritage site Jemaa El-Fna square, posing for the cliche snake pictures, and shopping for Moroccan wares in the souk. Later during that trip, the couple were also pictured having a traditional Moroccan breakfast of Msemen, black olives, and mint tea.
