Morocco wins hearts but loses to Croatia
Morocco lost the third place match for bronze to Croatia 1-2 on Saturday in the final stages of the FIFA 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Despite the loss, the Atlas lions have won the hearts of all Moroccan, Africans, and in general football fans in the world.
For Morocco, the 2022 World Cup campaign started with Croatia in a group stage match that ended 0-0, and ended on Saturday with Croatia.
On Wednesday, France crushed the hopes of the Atlas Lions of progressing to their first final.
However, after Saturday’s game, they managed to finish fourth, which was unimaginable for most at the start of the tournament. “We want to prove that we are one of the best teams in the world. We aspire to win the bronze and conclude our participation in the tournament with the best performance,” said the Moroccan coach Walid Regragui before the match.
Croatian coach Zlatko Dalic said before the match that his side would take the third-place playoff against Morocco as seriously as any other game. “Morocco was the surprise of the World Cup. They have proven to be high quality and have shown unity and spirit. They have great support and deserve to be where they are,” he said.
