Mesut Özil and Erdogan congratulate Morocco
German player of Turkish descent, Mesut Özil, tweeted his congratulations to Morocco after winning against Portugal.
Mesut tweeted that his pride of Moroccan team. He added that it is such an achievement for the African continent and Muslim world.
Mesut Özil, 34 y, played for Germany and was instrumental in their win in 2014 in Brazil. He retired from football in 2018 citing racial issues as being of Turkish origins behind lack of support in his native country.
Turkiye President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has also extended congratulations to Morocco in a Tweet. He wrote “I congratulate from the bottom of my heart the Moroccan national team, which is the first African team to reach the semi-finals of the World Cup”.
