Businessman heads a new cabinet in Morocco

A new government is announced in Morocco after the general elections held on 8 September 2021. The results cemented the rise of Alahrar party (National Rally of Independents), led by businessman Aziz Akhannouch, which won 102 out of 395 seats. The out-going Islamist Justice and Development Party (PJD), suffered a major setback as they won only 13 seats out of 395, losing 112 since the last elections. Although the party of Alahrar was expected to win the elections; the performance of PJD has surprised most Moroccans.

The new cabinet formed on 7 October 2021 is composed of 24 ministers including 7 women.
